Number One:

Fuck art supply stores.

HARDWARE STORES. I am all about this. canvas is bullshit. Go to a hardware store, find the bin/rack of scrap board. There will be a ton of stuff there to choose from and it will be as cheap as dirt. I bought an 8x4 foot sheet of masonite board for $5 the other day, the guy there cut it up for me and everything. Totally sweet.

Also, hardware stores have all kinds of stuff that if you find almost the exact same thing in the "Art supplies" section, you'll pay twice as much for, like sweet storage containers, dust masks, goggles, certain tools (If you do craft work like bead-work and stuff) Seriously, look at hardware store stuff first.

Number Two:

Stop fussing and just make art. Don't expect it to be perfect. "Bob Ross" it up and make some happy mistakes. don't say you can't make art. Anyone can make art, you just have to have an idea and put it to fruition.

Number Three:

If it ain't fun don't do it. If you are making art and it is stressing you out; Fuck it. Make art that makes you happy and it will make other people happy too. I spent so long trying to perfect these landscape paintings and portraits and stuff, but it didn't make me happy, it stressed me out. Now I'm drawing and painting stuff that makes me laugh and have fun. Now I ENJOY art.

Number Four:

You can never make everyone appreciate your art, but you'll almost always find someone to appreciate your art.

Number Five:

Stop harshing on other people's creativity. Whether its art, writing, music, poetry, whatever, theres nothing worse than people being pretentious and critical for no good reason.
Constructive criticism= awesome.
Destructive criticism= piss off.
